Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo has made good on his promise to reward Scottland FC for their promotion to the Premier Soccer League (PSL). Following the team’s decisive 3-0 victory against Black Mambas, Chivayo donated 20 Toyota Aqua vehicles and US$1.6 million to the club. Scottland FC secured their PSL spot after a remarkable season in the Northern Region Soccer League.
Chivayo’s pledge was made weeks earlier, promising the team Toyota Aqua vehicles if they secured a victory against Herentals and US$1 million if they achieved PSL promotion. True to his word, Chivayo fulfilled and even exceeded his promise, adding an additional US$600,000 to support the team’s PSL journey. The businessman took to social media to congratulate the team and its owner, ZANU-PF legislator Scott Sakupwanya.
Scottland FC’s promotion was marked by controversy after their match against Karoi FC was abandoned due to fan violence. The Northern Region Soccer League awarded the match to Scottland FC with a 3-0 scoreline. Despite this, the team’s achievement is undeniable, rising from humble beginnings in Mabvuku to join Zimbabwe’s elite clubs in the PSL. With Chivayo’s generous support, Scottland FC is poised to make a significant impact in their debut PSL season.
