Our #WCW today is Dr. Junior Mutsvangwa, a trailblazing clinical microbiologist with a PhD and over 15 years of experience in laboratory diagnostics, biomedical research, surveys, capacity building, and health system strengthening. Her impressive career is a testament to her ambition, dedication, and passion for making a difference in the field of HIV research.
Dr. Mutsvangwa’s expertise extends to her certification as a monitoring and evaluation (M&E) expert for TB and HIV activities. Her work has been quietly making waves at the Biomedical Research and Training Institute (BRTI), a non-profit private research organization focused on improving public health in Zimbabwe and beyond.
At BRTI, Dr. Mutsvangwa has held various roles, showcasing her versatility and leadership skills. She began as a Laboratory Manager, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the lab and ensuring the quality of research outputs. She then progressed to become the Head of Laboratories (HOL), where she was responsible for strategic planning, laboratory management, and technical oversight.
Currently, Dr. Mutsvangwa serves as a Senior Research Scientist (SRS)/Principal Investigator (PI) and Technical Lead at BRTI. In this capacity, she designs, implements, and evaluates research studies, provides technical guidance to junior researchers, and collaborates with local and international partners to advance HIV research and public health goals.
Dr. Mutsvangwa’s achievements are a shining example of what can be accomplished with hard work, determination, and a passion for making a difference. She is an inspiration to many, and her contributions to the field of HIV research have not gone unnoticed.
