A fatal incident occurred at the Mbudzi Roundabout Interchange construction site on Monday, resulting in the death of a worker. According to the project’s contractor, Tefoma Construction (Pvt) Ltd, the incident happened during the dismantling of a static tower crane by Manzlink (Pvt) Ltd, a subcontracted rigging specialist firm.
A mechanical failure caused both the static tower crane and a mobile crane used in the operation to collapse, resulting in the death of a Manzlink employee. Tefoma expressed condolences to the worker’s family, friends, and colleagues, and pledged full cooperation with authorities in the ongoing investigation.
The incident highlights ongoing safety challenges in Zimbabwe’s construction industry, where workplace accidents with fatal outcomes remain a recurring concern. Tefoma emphasized its commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards across all its project sites and will provide further updates as investigations progress.
