A 30-year-old woman from Ushewekunze endured a harrowing four-day abduction after taking an unregistered taxi, locally known as “mshikashika,” in Glen View. The incident, which occurred on Thursday, April 24th, serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers associated with using unauthorized public transport. The woman boarded a white Honda Fit near the Glen Norah Police Station, intending to travel to Ushewekunze, but the journey took a terrifying turn when one of the male passengers in the back seat drugged her with an injection.
Upon regaining consciousness, the woman found herself over 130 kilometers away in Mutorashanga, held captive in a locked room. According to Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, her ordeal continued for days. She was drugged again after attempting to call for help and was only given a revive drink and biscuits two days later. Finally, on the night of April 28th, she discovered the door to her confinement was unlocked and managed to escape, seeking help from a nearby homestead.
The family she encountered in Mutorashanga assisted her by providing transport money and contacting her family in Harare. She has since returned and received a medical examination at Sally Mugabe Central Hospital. Police are now using this disturbing case to caution the public against using unregistered taxis, highlighting the significant risks involved in opting for unofficial modes of transportation.
