Paradzai Mesi left fans and fellow musicians stunned with a chaotic appearance at Somandla “Mafia” Ndebele’s 26th album launch, Atove Mazambuko, held at Steak House Pub & Grill in Harare. Mesi, who was seated and drinking before his set, appeared heavily intoxicated when called on stage. He struggled to stand, slurred through his performance, and sang off-key, prompting his mic to be switched off and security to escort him off stage.

Despite attempts by Alick Macheso’s vocalist, Barnabas Mandipota, to help salvage the performance, the damage had already been done. The incident has sparked widespread disappointment and concern among fans and industry peers, who are worried about Mesi’s ongoing struggle with alcohol. This is not the first time Mesi’s drinking habits have raised eyebrows, having previously led to his fall from grace in Glendale.
When questioned about his conduct, Mesi defended himself, saying “Zviriko wangu. Ndambomwira mwira but handina kudhakwa muboora,” which translates to “It’s true, I had a few drinks, but I wasn’t drunk on stage.” However, the audience’s reaction and footage of the performance suggest otherwise, leaving many to wonder if Mesi has relapsed into his old habits.
