A horrific road accident near the Sebakwe River in Kwekwe has claimed the lives of 13 people. The tragedy occurred on May 27, 2025, around 11 a.m., involving a fuel tanker, a small lorry, and a Nissan AD van that was operating as a pirate taxi (mushika shika). According to eyewitnesses, the fuel tanker first collided with the lorry, but it was the subsequent crash into the van that proved fatal.
The impact was severe, with the tanker landing on top of the van and trapping it completely. Witnesses described the scene as horrifying, with the tanker leaking fuel and creating a serious risk of fire. Fortunately, no flames were reported, but the damage was extensive. The van was traveling from Kwekwe to Indarama, and the number of passengers on board is believed to be the main contributor to the high death toll.
Authorities are still working to identify the victims and will release their names once all procedures are completed. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, and an investigation into the cause of the crash is underway.
