Mukudzei Kandoro Majoni, widely known as King Kandoro, is a prominent Zimbabwean comedian, writer, and podcaster whose work has significantly shaped the landscape of contemporary Zimbabwean comedy. Born in September 1992. The ethos that “education is the key to success” was instilled in him from a young age, and for a time, he appeared set on a conventional path. However, during his third year at Rhodes University, the creative impulse that had always lingered beneath the surface finally took hold. In August 2015, he officially launched his career as King Kandoro, marking the beginning of a journey that would see him become one of Zimbabwe’s most influential comedic voices.
Kandoro first gained widespread recognition through his satirical skits and the creation of the “Madhorofiya Republik” in 2017. This creative hub became home to a range of projects, including the popular “Sadza in the Morning” podcast, which he co-hosted with Nickk Titan. The podcast quickly rose to become one of Zimbabwe’s most listened to, amassing over 400,000 downloads and receiving international recognition. Madhorofiya Republik also spawned an animated series called “PaJecha” and regular social events known as Madhorofiya Socials, which allowed Kandoro to connect directly with his growing fanbase. In addition to his solo work, King Kandoro became a key contributor to Magamba TV, a platform known for its sharp political satire. There, he wrote, acted in, and produced several acclaimed productions, including “Zambezi News” and “The Week with Cde Fatso,” further cementing his reputation as a versatile and fearless commentator on Zimbabwean society.
Kandoro’s stand-up career has been marked by a series of groundbreaking achievements. In 2019, he became the first comedian to headline and sell out the prestigious Reps Theatre in Harare, a record he surpassed in 2021 with a sold-out show at the 7 Arts Theatre during his “Prodigal Son Tour.” His ambition reached new heights in December 2022, when he sold out the 3,500-seat Celebration Centre with his “Family Meeting Tour” a feat unprecedented for a Zimbabwean comedian. His solo show “Conspiracy Theories,” staged in December 2019, was particularly significant, as Kandoro used it to formally introduce himself to the Zimbabwean public as a solo act, sharing his personal story and perspectives through comedy,
King Kandoro’s influence extends beyond the stage. In 2023, he was honored with the National Arts Merit Award (NAMA) for Outstanding Comedian, a recognition of his impact on Zimbabwean entertainment. He has also launched the “Properganda World Tour,” based on his satirical news show “Properganda with Kandoro,” performing to sold-out audiences across Africa and beyond, and bringing his unique comedic voice to a global audience.
Now based in the United Kingdom, King Kandoro continues to push creative boundaries, using humor to reflect on society, challenge norms, and inspire others to pursue their passions. His journey from a class clown in Zimbabwe to an internationally recognized comedian is a testament to his talent, resilience, and the power of laughter to unite and uplift.
