In a significant operation, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confiscated and destroyed substantial amounts of illicit substances and unregistered medicines. The destroyed items include 333.2 kg of dagga, 293 dagga plants, 15.86g of crystal meth, and 214 kg of various unregistered solid and cream medications. These substances were burnt at Sally Mugabe Hospital as part of the government’s efforts to combat drug and substance abuse.
This crackdown is part of a broader nationwide initiative aimed at addressing the issue of illicit substances and unregistered medicines. The ZRP, led by Commissioner Paul Nyathi, is taking a firm stance against drug abuse and trafficking. The destruction of these substances sends a strong message about the government’s commitment to tackling this problem.
In addition to the drugs already destroyed, a further 14,140 liters of unregistered liquid medicines are slated for destruction at the Chitungwiza dumping site. This ongoing effort demonstrates the government’s determination to protect public health and safety by ensuring that only registered and safe medicines are available in the market. The ZRP’s actions are expected to have a significant impact on reducing drug abuse and trafficking in Zimbabwe.
