Polisile Ncube, the Executive Director of the Zimbabwe Music Rights Association (ZIMURA), has been convicted of fraud and is currently in custody awaiting sentencing, scheduled for tomorrow. She appeared before Harare magistrate Mrs. Rufaro Panavanhu today, where she was acquitted of forgery but found guilty of fraud. Prosecutor Mr. Boniface Masvaire presented compelling evidence that led the court to conclude there was a strong case against her.
The conviction stems from a matter dating back to July 2023, when complainant Mr. Phillip Chipfumbu filed a High Court application (case number HCHC482/23) seeking a forensic audit of ZIMURA. On July 20, 2023, Mr. Chipfumbu discovered that Ncube had submitted a CR6 document, dated April 12, 2023, which was allegedly forged. The document was not recorded with the Department of Deeds, Companies, and Intellectual Property, whereas the genuine CR6 had been registered earlier on January 15 of the previous year. This discrepancy was central to the fraud charges that led to her conviction.
