A security guard is fighting for his life after being brutally assaulted by Bellarmine Chatunga, son of former President Robert Mugabe, and a group of heavily armed men at a Mazowe mining site. The incident occurred when Chatunga and his group accused the mine’s staff of harboring trespassers who were allegedly entering his mother’s property.

The assault, which involved the use of AK-47 rifles, left at least three workers seriously injured, with one security guard, Elvis Bvumbwe, suffering multiple fractures. According to medical reports, Bvumbwe sustained a fractured left ulna bone and severe bruising caused by both sharp and blunt trauma. The victims claim they were frogmarched into the Mugabe compound, doused with water, and repeatedly beaten with logs and metal rods.
The mine’s general manager, Joel Mushoriwa, has expressed concern over the incident, stating that the staff are traumatized and living in fear. Medical bills for the injured have already surpassed US$2,000. Despite the severity of the incident, Chatunga reportedly remained defiant, claiming that he would not be touched due to his connections. The case has been officially logged with the police, but efforts to get a comment from the police spokesperson were unsuccessful.
