#TodayInHistory, July 4, 1969, Wilfred Tichaona Mugeyi was born in Salisbury, Rhodesia. The Zimbabwean former footballer would go on to enjoy a distinguished playing career, earning the nickname “Silver Fox” for his clever movement behind opposition defenses.

Mugeyi’s playing career spanned multiple countries, including South Africa, Israel, and China. He had a particularly fruitful spell at South African side Bush Bucks, where he scored 76 goals in 142 appearances and won several awards, including the PSL Player of the Year and Top Goalscorer of the Season in 1996/97.
After retiring as a player, Mugeyi transitioned into coaching, serving as an assistant coach at Ajax Cape Town and later taking on head coaching roles at Chippa United and AmaZulu. His twin brother William Mugeyi also had a professional football career, playing for Bush Bucks and Zimbabwe.
