The Rural Electrification Fund (REF) has cleared the air on Eat n Lick’s catering contract, putting to rest speculation of a tender scandal. Reports had emerged claiming the contract was worth US$600,000, sparking controversy.

However, the REF has confirmed that the actual value of the contract is ZWG 603,600 – a far cry from the USD figure. The mistake, according to the REF, was due to a clerical error in a public procurement notice, where the tender value was incorrectly listed in USD instead of ZWG.

The contract, which was for catering services for 5,000 people at a solar plant commissioning in November 2024, was awarded in compliance with procurement regulations. The REF described the false reports as “patently false and damaging”.
