Allegations of Academic Misconduct Shake University of Zimbabwe

The University of Zimbabwe is under scrutiny following serious allegations against the Dean of Social & Behavioral Sciences, Dr. Stanzia Moyo. Accusations suggest Moyo is leveraging her ties to her husband, Education Minister Torerayi Moyo, to exert pressure on academic staff, reportedly coercing them into teaching beyond official semester timelines to fast-track results and hasten graduation ceremonies.

The controversy intensified after students were unexpectedly registered for a new module on July 28—weeks after the semester officially ended. The module, led by lecturer Mr. P Bare, is slated for examination just days later, on August 8. This compressed timeline has raised red flags among faculty and students alike, prompting questions about the legitimacy and rigor of the academic process under Moyo’s leadership.

University officials have remained tight-lipped as concerns mount over potential breaches of academic standards and ethical governance. As pressure builds, stakeholders across the educational sector are calling for a formal investigation to safeguard institutional integrity and ensure the credibility of qualifications awarded during the current cycle.
