Prominent socialite and fashion entrepreneur Natalie Mhandu, popularly known as Madam Stylist, was arrested in Budiriro on allegations of engaging in witchcraft. The arrest follows accusations from former associates who claim Mhandu performed rituals intended to harm them. According to reports, she allegedly wrote their names on a cloth, placed a knife on it, and buried the items under a muhacha tree. The matter surfaced after Mhandu dismissed her maid, who then disclosed the alleged practices to her former friends.

Mhandu has since been released into the custody of her lawyer and is expected to appear in court tomorrow. The charges fall under Section 98 of Zimbabwe’s Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act [Chapter 9:23], which criminalizes practices commonly associated with witchcraft when intended to cause harm or instill fear. Authorities are investigating whether the alleged actions meet the legal threshold for prosecution under this statute.

If convicted, Mhandu could face a fine, imprisonment for up to five years, or both. The case has sparked widespread public interest, given Mhandu’s high-profile status and the cultural sensitivities surrounding witchcraft in Zimbabwe. Legal experts note that while such cases are rare, the law provides clear guidelines for prosecution when intent and fear are proven.
