Born and raised in Zimbabwe, Valeta’s journey into the world of finance began humbly but with determination. She earned her Bachelor of Commerce Degree in Banking from the National University of Science and Technology, later advancing her knowledge with a Master of Philosophy in Development Finance from the University of Stellenbosch Business School. These academic achievements laid the foundation for her illustrious career, driven by a passion for transformation and innovation.
Valeta spent 19 years at Barclays Zimbabwe, where she held various senior positions, including Regional Head of Corporate Affairs. In these roles, she excelled in corporate communications, client strategy, and retail banking, proving her ability to navigate complex financial ecosystems. Her leadership was instrumental in driving operational improvements and fostering stakeholder relationships across Zimbabwe, Botswana, and Zambia. She also established herself as a champion of diversity and inclusion, advocating for women and youth development through her work with Junior Achievement International and the International Youth Foundation.
Her career took a regional leap when she joined Standard Chartered Bank Zimbabwe as Country Head of Retail Banking, before moving to ABSA Botswana as Retail Banking Director. At ABSA, Valeta managed a $1 billion balance sheet and $77 million in annual revenues, contributing 57% of the bank’s total revenue—a feat that underscored her ability to drive sustained growth in competitive markets. Her strategic vision earned her recognition as the runner-up in the Qorus Reinvention Awards for best innovation in Africa and the Middle East, cementing her reputation as a leader who thrives at the intersection of digital disruption and transformational leadership.
Valeta’s influence extends beyond traditional banking roles. She has completed prestigious leadership programs, including Absa’s Sustain Talent Programme, focusing on transformational leadership and digital disruption.
