Simbarashe Mandizvidza, a 35-year-old police officer, has been remanded in custody until Monday for a bail hearing following his appearance before Harare Provincial Magistrate Vakayi Chikwekwe. Mandizvidza faces multiple charges, including causing disaffection among the Police or Defence Forces, fraudulent procurement of a vehicle, and transmission of false data with intent to cause harm.

The charges stem from a series of videos Mandizvidza allegedly posted on social media, in which he claimed to be in command of the national police and issued a directive for Chinese nationals to leave Zimbabwe within 48 hours. Authorities say the statements were false and posed a threat to public order and diplomatic relations.

In addition to the online claims, Mandizvidza is accused of stealing a Ford Ranger vehicle. The case has sparked public debate over the conduct and accountability of law enforcement officers. Investigations are ongoing, and the court is expected to rule on his bail application early next week.
