43-Year-Old Man Arrested for Killing Five, Injuring Two in Bulilima

A 43-year-old man named Phamani Sibanda was arrested in Madlambuzi, Bulilima, Matabeleland South, for killing five people and injuring two others during a violent rampage. The incident occurred on a Wednesday when Sibanda, described as a mental patient, attacked villagers randomly using a Mopani log, a blunt object, and a sharp weapon while moving through Bellas and Central villages.

The five people who died on the spot were Elliot Khupe, aged 101, Butho Tshuma, aged 97, Constance Sibanda, aged 66, Tiffan Surprise Ndlovu, a six-year-old female juvenile, and Catra Matsika, aged 72. The two female survivors, aged 90 and 41, were rushed to Madlambuzi Clinic and Plumtree District Hospital for treatment.

Police urged communities to ensure that mental health patients receive proper treatment and monitoring to prevent such tragedies. The suspect, Sibanda, remains in custody pending his court appearance.
