Zimbabwe Republic Police have intercepted a major gold smuggling attempt, recovering 15.7 kilograms of gold valued at over US$1.5 million. The bust was carried out by detectives from the CID Minerals, Flora and Fauna Unit, who acted on a tip-off and tracked a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado suspected of transporting the contraband.

Three suspects were arrested during the operation, which unfolded as part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal mineral trafficking. The gold was reportedly en route to be smuggled out of the country, bypassing formal channels and threatening national revenue collection.
Authorities have since handed the recovered gold to Fidelity Gold Refinery, the country’s official buyer and processor of gold. Investigations are still underway, with police expected to release further details as they build a case against the suspects.
