Afrobasket Zimbabwe coach Emmanuel Mukandi

Emmanuel Mukandi is a notable Zimbabwean basketball figure born on June 7, 1977. He has been involved prominently in Zimbabwean basketball both as a player and coach. Mukandi played for the Zimbabwe national team, including participation in the 2007 FIBA Africa Championship for Men, where he averaged 1.7 points, 1 rebound, and 0.3 assists per game over three games. Later, he transitioned into coaching and has served as a coach for the Zimbabwe national basketball team and the Basketball Union of Zimbabwe (BUZ) since January 2011, based in Harare. Besides coaching at the national level, he is also involved with Cyrene High School’s basketball program.

His basketball career also includes contributions at the club level; he was associated with the Bulawayo Giants basketball team during its early revival years in the 1990s, suggesting a long-standing involvement in Zimbabwean basketball development. Mukandi is recognized not only for his on-court skills but also for his leadership in nurturing younger talents and promoting basketball in Zimbabwe, evidenced by his coaching tenure and participation in continental basketball events that aim to elevate Zimbabwe’s presence in African basketball competitions
