Comic Elder, real name Leroy Tadiwanashe Zawari, lit up the closing ceremony of the National Youth Symposium in Harare with his trademark humour. After receiving the Best in Comedy Award from President Emmerson Mnangagwa, he jokingly asked for the President’s home address, warning he’d personally collect the promised gift if it didn’t arrive.

The crowd erupted in laughter, including the President, who praised the comedian’s wit with the remark, “Mumusoro makazara zvinhu umu.” The moment captured Comic Elder’s bold style and the growing recognition of comedy in national spaces.

In a surprise twist, the comedian was called back to the stage and presented with a brand-new double cab vehicle, valued at around US$45,000. The gesture drew a standing ovation and sealed the night as a landmark moment for Zimbabwean entertainment.
