All 15 artisanal miners trapped at Redwing Mine have now been  rescued (Via The Herald). The first batch of four miners was rescued and later followed by another group of five individuals. The rescue operation was occurring at a steady pace, with one miner being brought out every 15 minutes. All  the trapped miners were expected to be rescued by the end of today.

Mines and Mining Development Minister Zhemu Soda, alongside Manicaland Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and devolution Advocate Misheck Mugadza, were present at the mine providing support and oversight. The miners became trapped when a mine shaft collapsed last week. Initial rescue efforts were delayed due to unstable ground conditions.

Some of the rescued miners said they survived on eating tree roots, and for four days, their bodies up to neck level, were submerged in water. They followed the cracks in the corners that brought in light and walked for 1km before they were saved. We are all relieved to know that the miners are all alive and well!
