Our #MCM this week is Munashe Chirisa, a Zimbabwean comedian, actor, and writer who was born and raised in Harare. Throughout his youth, he attended seven different schools in various regions, allowing him to connect with a diverse range of people. Munashe pursued his passion for performance arts and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Film, Stage, and Television from New Buckinghamshire University in the UK.

In 2014, Munashe made a breakthrough in his career with a standout performance at the African Comedy Show held at the Hippodrome in Golders Green, London. This experience served as a launchpad for his professional journey, and he became a resident comedian, sharing the stage with esteemed African comedy heavyweights such as Daliso Chaponda, Barry Hamilton, Joey Raisden, and Okay Bakasi.

Since graduating, Munashe has secured notable roles in the British theater scene. His recent credits include playing Nelson Mandela in Anna Coombs’ Water Bread and Salt during its UK tour, as well as portraying multiple characters in Dr Faustus on another UK tour, adapted by Coombs. He is also set to play the character of Akim in Gabriel Gbadamosi’s Stop And Search, directed by Mehmet Ergen, scheduled to run from January to February 2019.

Furthermore, Munashe is poised to make his feature film debut in April 2019, appearing in the Bollywood production Time To Dance, directed by Remo Desouza, where he takes on the role of Richard. Additionally, Munashe is gradually establishing himself in the Zim Hip-hop scene, with a collection of tracks produced by Tendai Mucheri and a visually stunning music video for the track “Wagamama” alongside X-O and Tendai.

Alongside his performances and music pursuits, Munashe stays engaged with his audience through his social media pages where he consistently creates and produces online content. As a multi-award winning comedian, Munashe continues to showcase his talent and entertain audiences across various platforms. One of his most popular comedy skits is his youtube show “The Real Housemaids of Harare.” The show will have you laughing uncontrollably as Munashe depicts each character so authentically and humorously. He also co hosts a podcast, amongst other things.
