On Saturday, 23 cattle died from suspected cyanide poisoning at Rixton Village 4 in Mhangura.

The cattle died on the spot after drinking water from a stream near a gold ore leaching plant. Cyanide is a rapidly acting, potentially deadly chemical. Sodium cyanide solution is commonly used to leach gold from ore.

The ZRP is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
