#MCM- Tapiwanashe Makarawu-Athlete

‎Our #MCM today is the one and only, Tapiwanashe Makarawu, a US-based National Sports Academy athlete and former Bindura University of Science Education student.

Makarawu carved his name into the history books by setting a new indoor record in the 200m event in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Running for New Mexico Junior College im the 2023 All-College Indoor Track competition, Makarawu posted an impressive 20.47s winning bronze in the competition.

Not only did Tapiwa set a new national but he also moved to fifth (5th) on the list of the fastest Africans in the 200m race. He joined the legendary Nambiam sprinter Frank Fredericks on the list who holds an impressive 19.92 seconds which he set in 1996. Tapiwa had recently moved to the United States of America on a sports scholarship after posting impressive times in the Africa Senior Championships in Mauritius.

He was scouted and nurtured by three time Olympian and National Sports Academy coach Cuthbert Nyasango.
