The former CEO of ZBC, Adelaide Chikunguru, who was recently suspended has made shocking claims that Information Minister Jenfan Muswere once made unwanted advances towards her, which she turned down.

Chikunguru disclosed that the advances occurred in 2021 when Muswere was serving as the ICT Minister. She firmly believes that this was the underlying reason Muswere sought her removal as ZBC CEO.

“In a LinkedIn post on Monday, I detailed how Minister Muswere made advances towards me via WhatsApp messages during the Chimanimani World Radio Day event on September 27, 2021. Despite my rejection, he persisted until eventually ceasing when he realized I was not interested,” Chikunguru stated.

She also shared a letter she wrote to Cabinet Secretary Martin Rushwaya outlining her concerns about Muswere’s alleged motives behind her dismissal, which led to her suspension and subsequent resignation.

Recent reports suggest that Chikunguru’s suspension stemmed from various infractions, including misusing ZBC funds for award purchases, unauthorized foreign trips, and acquiring a Starlink kit without proper authorization, as the satellite internet service is yet to be licensed in Zimbabwe.

Expressing distress over the misleading information spread by ZBC tarnishing her reputation, Chikunguru defended her tenure by highlighting the positive changes she implemented at the struggling public broadcaster. These initiatives included modernizing TV studios, enhancing staff salaries, and procuring necessary vehicles.

Additionally, Chikunguru raised concerns about a potential threat to her life following a suspicious incident last June involving her vehicle’s nuts being tampered with.
