Located at the heart of the nation, the commercial electric vehicle charging system is a welcome addition to Gweru’s infrastructure. It not only addresses the need for charging points for electric vehicles but also signals a shift towards sustainable transportation in the City of Progress.

Residents of Gweru have expressed their excitement and gratitude for the installation of the charging system. Many have voiced their relief at now having access to a charging point, which previously deterred them from considering electric vehicles. The introduction of this infrastructure is expected to boost economic activities in the city, as more people opt for electric vehicles and utilize the charging system.

Stakeholders in the energy sector have emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts and supporting infrastructure in transitioning from fossil fuels to electric vehicles. ZERA’s commitment to promoting eco-friendly platforms aligns with the country’s low emissions development strategy, which aims to reduce emissions from the transport sector by 40 percent per capita by 2030. The abundance of lithium resources in Zimbabwe further supports the transition to electric vehicles.

Government officials and industry leaders have lauded ZERA for its initiative in promoting electric vehicles and addressing climate change. The development of an Electric Vehicle policy is underway, signaling the government’s commitment to embracing alternatives to traditional gas-powered vehicles. The energy revolution requires innovative solutions, and the establishment of the electric vehicle charging system in Gweru is a step in the right direction towards a sustainable future.
