Neville Mutsvangwa arriving at the Harare Magistrates Court

Neville Mutsvangwa, the son of former Presidential Advisor Christopher Mutsvangwa, appeared in court today facing charges of illegal foreign currency trading.

According to reports, Mutsvangwa was arrested at his Mount Pleasant home yesterday along with two accomplices, Elias Majachani and Simbarashe Tichingana. The trio is accused of contravening Section 14(1) of the Bank Use Promotion and Suppression of Money Laundering Act Chapter 24:24.

Mutsvangwa’s mother, Monica, has claimed that the arrest was politically motivated and that the police took advantage of her absence on international duty.

The arrest is part of an ongoing crackdown on money changers across the country, with over 100 traders arrested so far.

Mutsvangwa’s court appearance comes as the government intensifies its efforts to combat illegal foreign currency trading and money laundering.
