A major scandal has rocked the Premier Soccer League after six individuals were arrested at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday for allegedly using counterfeit VVIP access cards at a match between Scottland FC and Caps United. Edith Mutambu, a statistician employed by Scottland FC, was among those nabbed, plunging the club into a major controversy. The fake passes were reportedly sold for a staggering US$150 each.

The alleged mastermind behind the scam is Fungai Chikonyora, who posed as a PSL official and sold the fraudulent VVIP cards to the other five suspects. The brazen fraud was uncovered by sharp-eyed PSL acting CEO Rodwell Thabe, who personally noticed irregularities at Gate 7 and cross-referenced names, exposing the scam. This swift action led to the arrest of Mutambu, Chikonyora, and four others: Rugare Kaondera, Wilbert Zindoga, Timothy Nerudzo, and Charles Banda.
The suspects are being held on fraud charges at Mbare police station, according to Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza. The arrests have sent shockwaves through the football fraternity, with many calling for stricter security measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
