Zimbabwean citizen Sirizani Butau has received a Toyota Fortuner and $50,000 in cash from businessman Sir Wicknell Chivayo, in recognition of his extraordinary bravery during a 2021 highway disaster. Butau risked his life to rescue passengers trapped in a burning fuel tanker on the Harare–Mutare highway, suffering severe burns in the process. His actions saved lives and earned national admiration.

Following the incident, Butau was awarded the Gold Cross of Zimbabwe by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, the country’s highest civilian honour for bravery. The award acknowledged his selfless courage and the physical toll he endured to protect others. His story became a symbol of heroism and compassion, widely shared across Zimbabwean media and social platforms.

Sir Wicknell’s latest gesture adds a personal layer of appreciation, offering Butau both mobility and financial capital to pursue future ventures. The cash gift is intended to support any business of his choice, with suggestions including a trucking enterprise. The recognition reinforces the message that acts of courage deserve tangible support and that true heroes walk among us.
